Enjoy a comfortable yet elegant setting while learning about Kentucky’s equine history at Darby Dan Farm, a farm that has contributed so much to that history.
This tour begins in the historic manor home, where you’ll learn about the storied past of Darby Dan Farm and the many champion racehorses who were raised on this land.
From there, the tour varies seasonally.
In spring and early summer, you’ll have the chance to get up close and personal to mares & foals. These youngsters and their mommas are eager to meet new people and pose for photos! While enjoying your time with the horses, you’ll learn more about how horses are bred and raised at Darby Dan and farms across the Bluegrass.
In late summer and fall, you’ll visit to the stallion division where a handful of stallions will be shown for your group. You’ll learn about the various stages of a stud career and meet horses who have excelled on the racetrack and in the breeding shed. Darby Dan Farm’s current roster includes perennial leading sire Dialed In, Kentucky Derby winner Country House, and a number of other talented racehorses.
The tour concludes in the trophy room, a near museum of horse racing, with memorobilia from some of the sport’s biggest events. Along the way, you’ll see views captured in the movie Secretariat, which filmed a number of scenes at Darby Dan Farm (and around Lexington!).
