Spendthrift Farm welcomes you to immerse yourself in the historical culture of thoroughbred breeding on this tour of the stallion complex.
The tour begins in the B. Wayne Hughes Visitor Center, where you’ll see trophies and memorabilia from the Kentucky Derby, Breeders’ Cup World Championships and more.
Then, you’ll head to the Spendthrift Farm stallion complex to see some of the leading studs in the industry. After walking through a barn to see stallions like Into Mischief, Authentic and others, the tour will make a stop in the state-of-the-art dual breeding shed, unlike any other in the Bluegrass, where more than 3,000 mares walk through its doors during any given breeding season.
After visiting the stallion complex, you will board the Spendthrift Farm shuttle to visit the nursery division. At the nursery division, guests will get up close and personal with mares and foals. This hands-on experience is your chance to meet a future champion! Along the way, guests will get the chance to enjoy the scenic beauty of Kentucky’s famed bluegrass region.
Throughout the tour, you will learn about Spendthrift’s colorful founder, the larger than life Leslie Combs. Combs was known for both entertaining celebrity guests and revolutionizing the thoroughbred industry. You will also hear more on industry innovator B. Wayne Hughes, who has not only revitalized Spendthrift Farm but invested in the sport of horse racing for years to come.
