Best for guests who want to learn about the breadth of the Thoroughbred business, including a stop at the stallion barn and a cruise through a beautiful farm learning about breeding and raising young Thoroughbreds.
WHAT YOU’LL SEE Stallions + Mares & Foals, you may get hands on too!
BEST FOR All Ages, curious, casual, and committed fans welcome.
ON THE TOUR You will be walking and standing throughout the stallion portion of the tour, then you’ll ride the shuttle around the farm for mares & foals
The home of Constitution, Life is Good, Cogburn, Country Grammer, and many more! Come and visit WinStar Farm, an Eclipse Award-winning Thoroughbred breeding and racing operation.
Our tour begins with a history of the farm, after which you will get to visit with a selection of stallions from our all-star roster. Learn about their individual race records, pedigree, progeny, and personalities. While in the stallion complex, the tour will stop in our state-of-the-art dual breeding shed where we welcome up to 2,000 mares every year!
After visiting with our stallions, you will board the farm’s electric shuttle and take a scenic ride through our beautiful Central Kentucky farm. Along with taking in the beautiful sights you will also have the opportunity to get up close and personal with the mares and foals that call our farm home! The Shuttle Experience varies seasonally, offering a unique look at a working horse farm during different seasons.
You will likely see mares and foals in the spring and summer, and yearling prep in the late summer to early fall. Be sure to bring your camera to take as many photos as you’d like!
For the safety of guests and horses, tour guests are not allowed to touch stallions during this tour. We do our best to let fans meet our stallions; however, there are no guarantees that can be made for any stallion on any particular tour. Showings depend on the health and daily activities of our stallions.
ABOUT WINSTAR FARM
WinStar was founded on a dream in 2000 by friends and business partners, Kenny Troutt and Bill Casner. What started as a 400-acre property – the former Prestonwood Farm – has grown to over 2,500 acres and is home to nearly 700 horses. WinStar started with just 4 stallions, one of which happened to be a young, unproven Distorted Humor who went on to sire 4 champions.
A lot like Distorted Humor, WinStar had a humble beginning, but now competes at the highest level of racing, is home to elite stallions such as Speightstown and Constitution, and brilliant broodmares, which helped earn the farm two Eclipse awards for Outstanding Breeder in 2016 and 2020. WinStar regularly ranks among the Top 10 North American breeders and has been in the Top Five by earnings each year since 2014. WinStar topped all breeders in 2018 with $8.6 million in earnings.
We attribute our success to our dedication to the horse, from birth through retirement. Our commitment to the horse and our wider community is at the core of our mission statement, “The WinStar family strives to glorify God by raising superior horses, using the most caring and innovative practices, while loving our neighbors as ourselves, whether employees, clients, or vendors.” WinStar aims to be a guiding light not only in the thoroughbred industry, but also to our community.
