Recapping the 2026 Breeders’ Cup World Championships

The 2026 Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Keeneland Racecourse in Lexington, Kentucky brought together the world’s best racehorses in the heart of Kentucky’s Horse Country. Two days of competition were headlined by thrilling victories, stunning fashion and all of the beloved traditions of a raceday at Keeneland. Nearly all of the newly-crowned Breeders’ Cup champions have a connection to Horse Country, from stallion prospects to homebreds and more.

The G1 Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic was the culminating race of Breeders’ Cup weekend, bringing together an incredible field that included two Kentucky Derby winners, a Preakness Stakes winner and one of the world’s highest-earning racehorses of all times. Godolphin’s homebred Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty reigned once again, winning his final race in spectacular fashion. Sovereignty was born and raised at Godolphin’s Gainsborough Farm in Versailles, and retired to stud duty at Jonabell Farm in Lexington the morning after the race. He will be joined at Jonabell Farm by Knightsbridge, who finished third in the Classic. Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott conditioned Sovereignty for the entirety of his career, and jockey Junior Alvarado was aboard the son of Into Mischief (Spendthrift Farm) for another chapter in their storied partnership.
