Double Dan Horsemanship joins Horse Country, Inc. Touring Program

Double Dan Horsemanship has joined Horse Country and will begin offering tours of their Australian Equine Performance Center in Lexington, Kentucky starting on May 19. Double Dan Horsemanship was founded in 2008 and has headquarters in Lexington, Kentucky and Tamworth, New South Wales, Australia. Founders Dan James and Dan Steers began performing together in 2008, showcasing their equine training techniques. Since then, Double Dan Horsemanship has performed more than 1000 live shows in 9 different countries.

Double Dan’s unique training methods are unlike that found anywhere else in the Bluegrass. Dan James and his wife, Dr. Elizabeth James, operate the Australian Equine Performance Center, where they utilize Liberty horsemanship to develop well rounded horses who are able to excel in any discipline. In addition to training and competition, James has worked on multiple film, television and photography projects centered around his horses and their unique skills including fan favorite television show Heartland, campaigns for Versace, Vogue and more.

“The magic of Hollywood has found a home in Horse Country! We are thrilled to welcome Double Dan Horsemanship to our family, and to share their remarkable story and exceptional horses with our guests,” shared Hallie Hardy, Executive Director of Visit Horse Country. “Their deep commitment to equine welfare and performance perfectly mirrors the values of our membership and our mission. We eagerly anticipate connecting visitors with the extraordinary horses, land, and people of Double Dan.”

Tours of Double Dan Horsemanship will visit with horses in training, performance horses, and view various locations on the farm important to the training and care of their equine residents. Guests will also have the chance to view a brief demonstration of the methods used to train horses for films and television shows. There will also be opportunities to attend clinics and other unique experiences.

“We’re honored to join the Horse Country community and to offer something truly unique within Kentucky’s equine tourism landscape,” said Dan James, co-founder of Double Dan Horsemanship. “Our horses have performed on some of the world’s biggest stages and screens, but there’s something special about sharing their stories up close with guests right here at home.”

“Being part of Horse Country is a privilege, and one we don’t take lightly,” said Dr. Elizabeth James. “We’re excited to open our gates and welcome guests into the world of Liberty training—a relationship-based approach to working with horses that’s at the heart of everything we do. It’s not just about watching horses; it’s about experiencing what’s possible through trust, connection, and purpose.”
