Spy Coast Farm strives to provide our clients and their equine partners the very best, most comprehensive care available and we are committed to improving the equine industry as a whole. Spy Coast Farm was originally located on Strong’s Neck in Setauket, NY, which was historically prime fishing and hunting territory for the Setalcott Indians. During the Revolutionary War, George Washington commissioned the “Setauket Spy Ring” to operate from the area. It is said that the patriot, Anna Smith Strong, received intelligence from the local tavern owner and then hung her petticoats and handkerchiefs on her laundry line in a predetermined array in order to inform the whale boat captain, Caleb Brewster, which harbor the redcoats were located in. The Setauket Spy Ring’s efforts contributed in no small measure to the success of the Patriot troops. Since then, the Strong’s Neck area has been known as the Spy Coast. We consider it an honor to be able to name our farm after this significant chapter of our nation’s rich history. Behind-the-Scenes with Taylor Made Sales at Keeneland Best for guests who want a behind-the-scenes look at how Thoroughbreds are marketed and sold at Keeneland. Please note, this tour takes place at the Keeneland Sales Grounds in Lexington, and will be led by the Taylor Made Sales team. WHAT YOU’LL SEE An inside look at the largest public Thoroughbred auction in the world, from the ship-in barn to the sales pavilion. BEST FOR Best for adults and older teens with an interest in sales, business, or Thoroughbred racing. Ideal for curious newcomers and committed fans alike! ON THE TOUR You will be walking and standing for the duration of this experience, covering multiple barns and the sales pavilion over varied terrain. This behind-the-scenes Keeneland tour gives guests a front-row seat to the preparation, presentation, and sale of Thoroughbreds at public auction. Led by Taylor Made—the highest-selling consignor in the history of the world—this interactive, step-by-step experience offers a front-row seat to what it takes to market, present, and sell Thoroughbreds at one of the world’s most prestigious public auctions. Your tour begins in front of the Keeneland Sales Pavilion—meet your guide in the lobby by the valet entrance. From there, you’ll hop in a golf cart for a short ride to your first stop: the ship-in barn, where horses are received, settled in, and prepped for showing. After that, the experience continues on foot as you walk barn to barn, getting an insider’s look at every stage of the sales process. You’ll stop at a showing barn to watch live showings and learn what buyers look for, then visit a selling barn to see a horse’s final grooming or “top-off” before going to the sales ring. Finally, you’ll head to the sales pavilion to follow that horse as it progresses through the walking rings for final inspections and eventually onto the historic Keeneland auction stage where it will be sold. Included in your ticket purchase – a souvenir hat, tie or scarf from the Taylor Made Sales team! ABOUT TAYLOR MADE FARM Taylor Made Farm was established in 1976 by Duncan Taylor on a small piece of land in Nicholasville, Kentucky. In the early 1980s, Taylor Made pioneered the consignment model at public auction—at a time when most breeders sold their own horses directly. Taylor Made was among the first to professionally market each horse to a targeted group of buyers, helping transform the way Thoroughbreds were presented and sold. That innovation laid the foundation for what would become one of the most successful sales agencies in the world. Today, Taylor Made is the highest-grossing consignor in history, having sold over $3 billion worth of horses, including 139 Grade 1 winners. The farm is owned and operated by Duncan and his brothers—Frank, Mark, and Ben Taylor—along with lifelong friend and partner Pat Payne. Now joined by the third generation—Katie, Marshall, Joe, and Brooks Taylor, plus Logan and Alex Payne—Taylor Made continues to lead the industry in both volume and results, selling more horses at Keeneland than any other consignor and providing world-class care, preparation, and marketing for clients around the globe. It has been home to many famous Thoroughbreds, including two Kentucky Derby winners: 1959 Tomy Lee and 1960 Venetian Way, and three-time Horse of the Year Devil Diver. Trainer Kenny McPeek purchased the property in 2006, and renamed it Magdalena Farm in honor of 19th century matriarch, Magdalena Weber Shely. He refurbished it, updating the structures and built a world class turf gallop for training racehorses. The facility is now home to 5 barns and 60 stalls, 23 turnout paddocks, and a world class turf gallop for training racehorses. Kenny McPeek is one of the leading racehorse trainers in North America, and is based out of Lexington, Kentucky, and Ocala, Florida. Since his training career began in 1995, McPeek’s trainees have earned over $126 million on the racetrack. He has trained multiple grade one winners, including 2024 Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan, 2024 Kentucky Oaks winner Thorpedo Anna, 2020 Preakness Stakes winner Swiss Skydiver, 2002 Belmont winner Sarava and many more. ABOUT WINSTAR FARM WinStar was founded on a dream in 2000 by friends and business partners, Kenny Troutt and Bill Casner. What started as a 400-acre property – the former Prestonwood Farm – has grown to over 2,500 acres and is home to nearly 700 horses. WinStar started with just 4 stallions, one of which happened to be a young, unproven Distorted Humor who went on to sire 4 champions. A lot like Distorted Humor, WinStar had a humble beginning, but now competes at the highest level of racing, is home to elite stallions such as Speightstown and Constitution, and brilliant broodmares, which helped earn the farm two Eclipse awards for Outstanding Breeder in 2016 and 2020. WinStar regularly ranks among the Top 10 North American breeders and has been in the Top Five by earnings each year since 2014. WinStar topped all breeders in 2018 with $8.6 million in earnings. We attribute our success to our dedication to the horse, from birth through retirement. Our commitment to the horse and our wider community is at the core of our mission statement, “The WinStar family strives to glorify God by raising superior horses, using the most caring and innovative practices, while loving our neighbors as ourselves, whether employees, clients, or vendors.” WinStar aims to be a guiding light not only in the thoroughbred industry, but also to our community.
