Spendthrift Farm welcomes you to immerse yourself in the historical culture of thoroughbred breeding on this tour of the stallion complex.

This one-hour tram ride will take you around the historic 1200-acre Spendthrift Farm where you will learn about the farm’s past while meeting the farm’s future. The tour begins at the Spendthrift office, which was once our founder’s home, then you will hop on ‘Speedthrift’, the Spendthrift Farm shuttle, and pass by the iconic stallion complex and ‘Nashua Motel’, then travel onto the backside of Spendthrift to visit with our broodmares and foals! Breeders’ Cup Classic champion White Abbario is one of the many greats bred and raised at Spendthrift Farm, and you never know what future champion you will meet on this tour.

On this tour, the tram will make frequent stops where you will be able to be hands-on with the mares and foals, feeding treats and creating unforgettable moments. Outside treats are not allowed.

Please note: Beholder, Monomoy Girl and the stallions are not included in this tour.

You will view a selection of the Spendthrift Farm stallions, while learning about their race record, pedigree and progeny, before walking through the rest of the stallion barn to see the many champions that call Spendthrift home.

Throughout the tour, you will learn about Spendthrift’s colorful founder, the larger than life Leslie Combs, who was known for both entertaining celebrity guests and revolutionizing the thoroughbred industry. You will also hear more on industry innovator B. Wayne Hughes, who has not only revitalized Spendthrift Farm but invested in the sport of horse racing for years to come.

On this shuttle tour, you will be given the opportunity to explore the different facets of Spy Coast Farm and learn how they have grown to be a major player in the show jumping community.

You will tour the state-of-the-art Rehabilitation and Fitness Center, Stallion Barn, CEM Quarantine, Young Horse Development Center, Equine Education Center, and Reproduction Center where our mares and foals reside. Touring these facilities provides a great opportunity to learn about show jumping and how horse management, training, and care differs from other equine industries.

Please note, there is no guarantee that guests will see horses being ridden or horses receiving therapy, as the rehabilitation schedule depends on each individual horse as well as time of day and weather.

Spy Coast Farm offers educational tours for groups of all ages, from elementary students to vet students. These experiences are hosted by request, based on the schedule of the farm. All educational requests can be submitted by emailing [email protected].

Spy Coast Farm was originally located on Strong’s Neck in Setauket, NY, which was historically prime fishing and hunting territory for the Setalcott Indians. During the Revolutionary War, George Washington commissioned the “Setauket Spy Ring” to operate from the area. It is said that the patriot, Anna Smith Strong, received intelligence from the local tavern owner and then hung her petticoats and handkerchiefs on her laundry line in a predetermined array in order to inform the whale boat captain, Caleb Brewster, which harbor the redcoats were located in. The Setauket Spy Ring’s efforts contributed in no small measure to the success of the Patriot troops. Since then, the Strong’s Neck area has been known as the Spy Coast. We consider it an honor to be able to name our farm after this significant chapter of our nation’s rich history.

This behind-the-scenes Keeneland tour gives guests a front-row seat to the preparation, presentation, and sale of Thoroughbreds at public auction. Led by Taylor Made—the highest-selling consignor in the history of the world—this interactive, step-by-step experience offers a front-row seat to what it takes to market, present, and sell Thoroughbreds at one of the world’s most prestigious public auctions.

Your tour begins in front of the Keeneland Sales Pavilion—meet your guide in the lobby by the valet entrance. From there, you’ll hop in a golf cart for a short ride to your first stop: the ship-in barn, where horses are received, settled in, and prepped for showing.

After that, the experience continues on foot as you walk barn to barn, getting an insider’s look at every stage of the sales process. You’ll stop at a showing barn to watch live showings and learn what buyers look for, then visit a selling barn to see a horse’s final grooming or “top-off” before going to the sales ring.

Finally, you’ll head to the sales pavilion to follow that horse as it progresses through the walking rings for final inspections and eventually onto the historic Keeneland auction stage where it will be sold.

You will be able to view a selection of stallions from our roster and learn about their pedigree, progeny, race records, and quirks. On this tour you may meet a Breeders’ Cup winner or multimillionaire!

Along with meeting our star-studded stallion roster you will get to visit our state-of-the-art dual breeding shed where we welcome up to 2,000 mares every year! Learn about what goes into thoroughbred breeding from one of the industry’s leading farms.

We do our best to let fans meet our stallions; however, there are no guarantees that can be made for any stallion on any particular tour.

Please note, Distorted Humor and Tiznow are both fully retired, and will not be pulled out to be shown during tours. They may be viewed in their stalls or outside, when their schedule allows.

Learn about what it takes to get a thoroughbred yearling ready for sales!

Join us in walking through a morning with the yearlings as they are prepared for upcoming yearling sales. WinStar sends about 100 yearlings to the sales every year and there’s a lot that goes into getting them ready. This tour provides an inside look into the daily process of prepping a yearling for the sales.

We will start out at the barn where we will see the yearlings come inside for the morning to begin their daily routine and end at the swimming pool where we swim them for daily exercise.

You’ll hear from our longtime yearling manager, Donnie Preston, who has been at WinStar for over 20 years about how he likes to put the foundation, or basic training, on his yearlings and ask him questions as we go.

This unique private experience takes a tour of some of the many different aspects of the industry WinStar is involved in, starting at our stallion complex, you will have the opportunity to meet the stallions, learn about breeding, how these horses earned their way into our stallion barn and even get to give a stallion a peppermint.

You will then get to tour some of our other divisions, you will have the chance to see mares, foals, stallions, yearlings, and racehorses depending on the season.One of the stops unique to this tour is our state of the art training center, including our track, hyperbaric chamber, and other equipment that helps keep our racehorses in top condition.

We will stop by the office where guests will get to see some of the awards, trophies, and saddle cloths we have been awarded including Derby trophies, and the Triple Crown trophy that we won in 2018 with Justify.

Best for guests who want to enjoy an evening walk at a stunning horse farm. This walking tour will take you through 1.75 miles of paved roadways with slight elevation changes, while viewing stunning horse farm scenes.

Enjoy a walk through beautiful Kentucky Horse Country on this tour of WinStar Farm.

Your tour guide will lead you through the scenic main loop of the farm, where you will see horses in paddocks and experience the ambiance of an evening at a horse farm. The main loop is roughly 1.75 miles on paved roadways with slight changes and elevations.

Be sure to bring your camera and wear comfortable walking shoes!

For the best experience, we recommend wearing comfortable walking clothes and shoes. The walking route is approximately 1.75 miles and will take guests through the rolling hills of the bluegrass.

This tour is weather dependent, and in the event of severe or unpleasant weather this event may be cancelled. If the tour is cancelled, you will be contacted and offered a refund or a raincheck.

Please note, this tour may not include opportunities to interact directly with the horses. Since this is a working horse farm, the health and wellbeing of the horses takes precedent.

Our tour begins with a history of the farm, after which you will get to visit with a selection of stallions from our all-star roster. Learn about their individual race records, pedigree, progeny, and personalities. While in the stallion complex, the tour will stop in our state-of-the-art dual breeding shed where we welcome up to 2,000 mares every year!

After visiting with our stallions, you will board the farm’s electric shuttle and take a scenic ride through our beautiful Central Kentucky farm. Along with taking in the beautiful sights you will also have the opportunity to get up close and personal with the mares and foals that call our farm home! The Shuttle Experience varies seasonally, offering a unique look at a working horse farm during different seasons.

You will likely see mares and foals in the spring and summer, and yearling prep in the late summer to early fall. Be sure to bring your camera to take as many photos as you’d like!

For the safety of guests and horses, tour guests are not allowed to touch stallions during this tour. We do our best to let fans meet our stallions; however, there are no guarantees that can be made for any stallion on any particular tour. Showings depend on the health and daily activities of our stallions.

Enjoy a morning at beautiful WinStar Farm with this brand new experience! You’ll climb aboard the electric shuttle, which will drive through gorgeous Kentucky farm-scapes on the way to WinStar Farm’s private training center.

Once you have arrived at the training center, the group will have a chance to watch horses exercising on the training track and learn more about the basics of training a racehorse.

After leaving the training center, the shuttle will travel through the main loop of WinStar, where you’ll get to see horses of all ages in their paddocks while enjoying scenic views.

This tour is great for photographers, and is even better when paired with a WinStar Farm Stallion Complex Tour, available at a discount as an add-on to this experience. ABOUT MILL RIDGE FARM

Visit us at Mill Ridge Farm, near iconic Keeneland Racetrack, and experience a farm renowned for raising and selling first class Thoroughbreds. Owner Alice Headley Chandler’s father, Hal Price Headley, was the main force in the founding of Keeneland, and the first President of what is considered one of the greatest racetracks in the world.

After his death in a Keeneland barn in 1962, Alice inherited the land that would become Mill Ridge Farm. Just six years later she became the first woman to breed an Epsom Derby winner in SIR IVOR. Come and join us for a glimpse into the world of Kentucky Derby winning Trainer Kenny McPeek’s operation including the birthplace of 2024 Derby winner Mystik Dan.

You will begin your visit with a stop at the McPeek Racing office, where you will learn about the history of Magdalena Farm, its importance to the Thoroughbred industry (Magdalena Farm was the first farm to offer commercial stud services to mares, starting in 1810!) and view a selection of trophies and memorabilia.

The tour will then move to the training barn, where visitors have the chance to learn about the care, daily schedule, horse management and training philosophy of McPeek Racing. You may even get up close and personal with racehorses in training! Many of McPeek’s top horses periodically ‘vacation’ at the farm in between races.

Many historic racehorses are buried on the property, giving guests the chance to learn the stories and significance of some of these notable residents.

The last stop on the tour will be the foaling barns, where mares and foals reside and enjoy their days grazing in the paddocks surrounding the barns. You will learn about the process of breeding and raising Thoroughbreds, and get up close and personal to the mares and foals who call the farm home. You’ll even see the stall in which 2024 Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan was born!

ABOUT MAGDALENA FARM + MCPEEK RACING

Magdalena Farm has an illustrious history, dating back to the Revolutionary War. It has been home to many famous Thoroughbreds, including two Kentucky Derby winners: 1959 Tomy Lee and 1960 Venetian Way, and three-time Horse of the Year Devil Diver.

Trainer Kenny McPeek purchased the property in 2006, and renamed it Magdalena Farm in honor of 19th century matriarch, Magdalena Weber Shely. He refurbished it, updating the structures and built a world class turf gallop for training racehorses. The facility is now home to 5 barns and 60 stalls, 23 turnout paddocks, and a world class turf gallop for training racehorses.

Kenny McPeek is one of the leading racehorse trainers in North America, and is based out of Lexington, Kentucky, and Ocala, Florida. BraveHearts Equine Center is located in Paris, Kentucky. Owners David and Ruth Waronker founded the nonprofit after realizing there was a need for more support systems for draft horses from abuse, slaughter, and neglect. We are primarily a draft horse rescue, the largest in the state. Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome younger equines and provide a sanctuary for the senior animals or those who may need specialized care for the rest of their lives.

ON THE TOUR You will be walking & standing throughout the tour

Get up close and personal with the residents of Kentucky’s only all-breed equine rescue, and see what we do to give horses a fresh start on a new chapter in their lives!

The tour begins in the office, where we give an overview of the farm, then we’ll walk around the barn and visit horses in the fields and hear their stories. You will see a demonstration of training that takes place in our arena or round pen, come back through the barn where you learn about some rehabilitation successes, and might see a veterinary exam, foot treatment, acupuncture, or other example of care (not guaranteed, according to the schedule of individual horses).

We’ll conclude with an opportunity for you to feed a horse or pony a treat and interact with them.The tour will last an hour to an hour and a half, and is on mostly flat cement terrain, but there are steps into the house, and when interacting with horses it will be on grass and could be muddy. The Kentucky Equine Adoption Center occupies 72 acres as a safe haven for all breeds of equines in transition to their forever home. We manage approximately 50 horses at any given time, all available for adoption, in varying stages of rehabilitation and retraining. Some come to us from abuse or neglect situations, and many have been surrendered by kind owners who recognize that their circumstances prevent them from caring properly for their horse(s). We train and heal them physically, mentally, and emotionally to be ready for a good life in a forever home.

Best for guests who want to enjoy a yoga class among the serene setting of a horse farm.

Join us for a morning of guided yoga at WinStar Farm in Versailles, Kentucky!

After arriving at the farm, guests will take a shuttle ride through the farm to a scenic location for class. A certified instructor will guide guests through a one hour long class. Upon conclusion of the class, guests will board the shuttle and enjoy a drive through the farm.

Yoga mats and light refreshments will be provided for the class.

Please note, equine interaction is possible, but not guaranteed.

Event will be weather dependent and will be moved indoors to the WinStar Gym should there be a chance of rain.  

ABOUT WINSTAR FARM

WinStar was founded on a dream in 2000 by friends and business partners, Kenny Troutt and Bill Casner. What started as a 400-acre property – the former Prestonwood Farm – has grown to over 2,500 acres and is home to nearly 700 horses. ON THE TOUR This is a shuttle tour, but you will be walking & standing during the tour too

We welcome you to visit Lane’s End Farm in Versailles, Kentucky, for the Lane’s End Shuttle Experience – which includes a visit to the broodmare and/or yearling division.This tour begins with a history of the farm, then you will head outside to climb aboard the shuttle and venture throughout the many acres of Lane’s End Farm, learning about the different divisions of the farm.

The shuttle tour is tailored specifically to the day of the tour to ensure the most engaging experience possible. Depending on the time of year, you will see and interact with mares, foals and yearlings.
